Afterwards, we went to check out Elakala Falls, that are located in the same park. The falls are accessible via a short hike through a beautiful, almost fairy-tale like forest. There is a series of four distinct waterfalls on Shays Run that make up Elakala Falls.

2016-07-09 The Elakala Falls are quite close, so you could do a very short trip to view the falls and then back. The falls are fed by Shay Run, and like all the streams and rivers of the area, feature "black" water due to high levels of tannins. Tannin-stained waters feeding Elakala Falls: The falls, along with a few of the park’s other features like Elakala Falls, Lindy Point and Pendleton Point Overlook, are some of the state’s most photographed spots.

Elakala Falls . Blackwater Falls. Next up: kayaking! We brought our yaks over to play on Pendleton Lake. They have a nice beach/swimming area, and a cool railroad bridge you can go under when you’re out on the water. Plus the nature center for the park is located across the parking lot.
